from the Max Lager’s web site –
Max Lager’s is the oldest independent brewery restaurant in Atlanta and is known widely for its wood-fired cuisine and freshly-brewed beers.
Located on Peachtree Street in the heart of Downtown Atlanta, Max Lager’s Wood-fired Grill & Brewery is an oasis of authenticity in an environment of national chains. The beautifully renovated 10,000 square-foot historic building features an industrial loft-style ambiance, and is designed to host fun events for groups of up to 700 people.
Max Lager’s was one of the first restaurants to bring the fresh and natural wood-fired menu concept to Atlanta. The art of cooking with wood enhances the Max Lager’s experience with bold flavors simply not found with alternative cooking methods. We feel that the investment made in the wood-fired grill is an investment that pays great dividends to our guests.
Max Lager’s Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery is locally owned and operated. The proprietors are a group of family and close friends who own Max Lager’s through Brewed to Serve Restaurant Group, Inc.
Congrats to John on his GABF medal in 2011!!!
From the Ale Street News Dec-Jan 201:
“The state of Georgia had two breweries taking home medals in 2011. The first was by John Roberts, who has been at the helm of Max Lagers Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery in downtown Atlanta since it opened in 1998, and he garnered Bronze for IMOS (Imperial Mocha Oatmeal Stout) in the Imperial Stout category. The last cask was tapped back in November but John always has incredible creations for his fans on tap like the Sublime Chocolate Bock. John says on his blog “I don’t brew beer to win contests. I brew beer that I like, but I’ve gotta admit – winning is pretty darn cool.” “
Multi Max is described as a “Multi Grain Wheat” beer, and that it is! Brewed with barley, wheat, and rye malts as well as oats, Jon has just about every grain covered here. Belgian White yeast adds the tangy, acidic flavor characteristic of the Belgian White Ale style.
Max Abbey is brewed in the style of a Belgian Dubbel. Full of malt flavor, and the characteristic Trappist Ale flavors of banana, apple, and pear, this beer is one that is a yearly favorite at Max Lagers.
Max Brown is an American style Brown Ale brewed with plenty of hop character. Slight chocolate and toasted notes complement the hops as well.
Max Pale is a West Coast-style Pale Ale brewed in the heart of the South! Nothing is spared here with large amounts of hops, and a big flavorful malt profile. The Bonnlander Munich and Victory malts add a subtle toasted malt character to Max Pale.
Max Mai Bock is a full bodied, deep golden colored lager, hopped to a moderate level of bitterness that allows the malt flavors from the Ashburn Mild Ale malt to dominate the flavor profile.
Max Black is a dark German lager. The lager yeast produces flavors that complement the darker malt flavors of this fine beer.
Max Red is brewed in the style of a Vienna Lager. Medium bodied, very smooth, and less bitter than the house Pilsner, this beer is a favorite of the locals and visitors to Atlanta. The spicy yet soft hop finish is from the addition of noble German Tettnanger hops.
Max Gold is a Pilsner-style beer brewed with imported and domestic malts. It has a soft malt character and a spicy hop finish and aroma.
